Isa 6:7 “And he touched my mouth and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Isaiah had an encounter with God. Not just a normal encounter, but he saw God in His holiness and majesty. His response? The same as any of us: a realization of our depravity and unworthiness. Just like darkness cannot exist when light is present, sin cannot stand in the presence of a holy God. Isaiah, realizing his sin, said, “Woe to me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips!” One of the seraphim flew to him with a burning coal and, touching his lips with it, said, “Your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
Fire hurts. When God is taking us through the fire to refine us, it is painful. The results, however, are always beautiful. When silver or gold comes through the refiner’s fire, they shine more brightly than before. When your sin is revealed to you; repent, rejoice and receive the purifying fire from the altar of our holy God.
